I. Chinese Government Scholarships

Introduction: In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in politics, economy, culture, education, and trade between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), entrusted by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE), is responsible for the enrollment and administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs. Academic programs of Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Economics, Law, Management, Education, History, Literature, Philosophy and Arts in 252 designated Chinese universities are available to scholarship winners.

Categories: Chinese Government Scholarship programs sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to undertake degree studies (bachelor, master or PhD) or academic research in China.

Duration: Chinese Government Scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study. The table below illustrates the duration of each program.

Coverage of Chinese Government Scholarship:

Full Scholarship:

1. A fee waiver of registration, tuition, laboratory experiments, internship, and basic textbooks.

2. Free on-campus dormitory accommodation.

3. A living allowance at the following rates( per month),

undergraduates: CNY 1,400; master’s students & general scholars: CNY 1,700; doctoral students & senior scholars: CNY 2,000.

4. One-off settlement subsidy:

CNY 1,000 for new students who will study in China for less than one academic year;

CNY 1,500 for new students who will study in China for one academic year or above.

5. Outpatient medical service and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China.

6. One-off inter-city travel reimbursement.

Partial Scholarship: One or some items of the full scholarship.

II. Confucius Institute Scholarship

Introduction: In order to support development of Confucius Institutes, facilitate Chinese language promotion and Chinese cultural transmission in the world, cultivate qualified Chinese language teachers and talented students of Chinese language, Confucius Institute Headquarters(Hanban) launches the “Confucius Institute Scholarship” program to provide financial aid for students, scholars and Chinese language teachers worldwide to proceed to a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) in Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as "host institutes"), or study in such majors as Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese Philosophy.

Confucius Institute Scholarship Program was established in 2009. By 2012, more than 16,000 applicants from 150 countries have been funded to study in China.

1. The category of Confucius Institute Scholarship includes Scholarship for Students of Master's Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages(MTCSOL), Scholarship for Students of One-Academic-Year + MTCSOL, Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Students, and Scholarship for One-Semester Students. Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens in good health, aged between 16 and 35 (Chinese language teachers in post shall be aged below 45). 2. Scholarship winners are exempt from registration fees, tuition, fees for basic learning materials, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with a one-off resettlement subsidy, monthly allowance, outpatient medical service and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China. Monthly allowances are at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):

a. CNY 1,400 for One-Academic-Year Students and One-Semester Students.

b. CNY 1,700 for Master’s Degree Students.

III. Jilin Provincial Government Scholarship

Introduction: Jilin Provincial Government Scholarship is established by Jilin Provincial Government to provide scholarships for international students and scholars to study for Master’s degree and complete the postgraduate education in school, aiming at reinforcing international communication and recruiting autonomously international students to enjoy Jilin governmental scholarship.

Application:

1. Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens in good health;

2. Obey the laws of the Chinese government regulations, the rules and regulations of the school;

3. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree approved by China's Ministry of Education, under the age of 35;

4. Academic excellence, need to have two professors or associate professors recommend;

5. Applicants do not won any other kind of Chinese government scholarship at the same time.

Finance content and standard:

1. Jilin Provincial Government Scholarship is full scholarship-Exempt from tuition fee, fee for basic learning materials; free accommodation on campus(2 share one room in principle); basic living allowance; comprehensive medical insurance for international students in China.

2. Scholarship students are not permitted, in principle, to change their subjects, institutions or the duration of study specified in the Admission Notice and the Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202).
